I stopped smoking crack for SWTOR

Been a long, long time since i got a game and stopped eating, stopped sleeping, stopped talking to the rest of my family.. But that’s exactly what happend when I got into the pre-release of SWTOR a week ago.

3 days after i activated my pre-release i signed up for 3 months, bought the digital deluxe edition and found myself infront of the mirrior with a full beard contemplating various reasons to call in sick for work..

I have always had a soft spot for sci-fi, and especially sci-fi mmo’s. Maybe im still hunting for that first virgin experience i had way back when i started out with mmo’s or maybe it’s just my generation growing up with Star Trek, Space: 1999, William Gibson’s Neuromancer or movies like Totall Recall. I stopped long ago trying to understand why. Fact is you have to reach a pretty high standard to impress me with a sci-fi mmo. SWTOR did.

The feeling and scenery is probably the most important. Sony missed the spot with Star Wars Galaxies, they made a mmo like any other and knew the money would come just because they had the franchise. Big mistake. Bioware, beeing the leeding experts on rpg, made a rpg built for online play with the goal to be extremley true to the lore. This is what makes and breaks a game like this.

The locations are spot on, when you enter Coruscant for the first time it’s jaw dropping.. The sounds, the constant streams of shuttles, ships and speeders comming and going are just amazing. The music increasing when you encounter a rouge droid, the sound of your blaster, rockets or lightsaber – it’s all just so Star Wars.

The constant battle between light and dark, the decisions you make and how they effect your characters alignment but in the same time it’s relations with your companion (or the whole crew of you ship). It’s just not that easy beeing just evil or just good – it’s like real life, sometimes you just do bad things even though you’re a good guy.. Nothing is black or white.

All this are intruduced in portions, missions, instances, companions, crafting, your own ship, mount etc. Very clever
Or as my friend “Southwest” said “OMG it’s like having my own dollhouse with dolls to play with”

Star Wars fan or not – if you like mmo’s this is a must have game. Play a character to 25 and then make up your mind. I bet you’re still there at lvl 50.

Been playing SWTOR for the last days, nothing hardcore just levels 1-15

– Flawless, no issues
– Missions are smooth, fun and very story driven
– Flashpoints (dunegons) are fun so far
– Very polished, game is really rdy for release (This is in fact rare theese days in new releases..)

levels 1-5
Learning the lingo, the character, moves, skills

Getting hang of teaming, exploring, hunting

At lvl 10 the real world opens up, crewskills (tradeskills) Flashpoints (Dunegons), travel, Auctionhouses, Social skills etc etc

Whatever you think of the game when you start out, don’t form your opinions before lvl 10. levels 1-10 really are just training grounds.

*edit* I’ll get som screens up ltr tonight of Blackmoore in SWTOR

This is me – working my last day

Not much happening right now, most nights goes away in a haze of Battlefields 2142 or recording music in Cubase. Work has been crazy the last two weeks as I aim to implement two new features in our LMS platform before I leave. Now enough with the boring workrelated stuff.

Not much excitement..
The only exciting thing going on right now is my search for a “new” used Marshall amp right now, preferably a half stack. A lot of people say they have problems with Valvstate tops. I had a Valvstate (among others, JCM, Mosfet etc.) myself way back and it worked flawlessly both live and in our studio. The reason I mention the Valvstate is there in my price range – cheap.. And I don’t want to put up a fortune for a half stack as my “live playing days” probably are over more or less.

If you have any tips or insight on what half stack would suite an old rocker like me feel free to drop me a message.

A lot more excitement in the virtual world
SWOTR, STO, DC Universe, Diablo 3 etc. etc. There’s no end to all the cool games coming later this fall. The most exciting news is ofc DC Universe for Playstation 3 (due to come 2010) and SOE even had it running on a PS3 during E3.

Star Trek Online
There’s been a new dev chat with the guys at STO

Star Wars The Old Republic
SWTOR have three new classes and some new cool class specific videos.
The Smuggler
Now this looks like your average Han Solo kinda guy. And we all know “”Traveling Thru Hyperspace Ain’t Like Dustin Crops Boy.”. Looks like the “small arms dual wielder”. Check it out!

The trooper
This is your solider ranged weapons specialist. Even if the trooper have some close combat moves it’s in ranged combat, lobbing grenades and firing heavy weapons he will be at he’s best. You will remember “The Solja” from Anarchy Online. You played Atrox solja ofc 😀

The Bounty Hunter
This looks like the “Jack of all trades” guy for the Dark side. With a variety of tricks and gadgets there known as “The Jedi Killers”.. They obviously  never met Obi Wan Blackmoore yet..

Besides that, Aion (The asian makeover gay fly like an angel game) had its closed beta Phase one and by the time we all had downloaded the client it was all over – had to be the shortest beta in the mmo history. Anyway there going for Phase two starting 19th of June. If you’re lucky you might even get the chance to log in this time.. I’m not even going to put up a link for this lame gay game.

DC Universe on Playstation 3!
For the first time publicly, SOE showed off DC Universe Online using a Playstation 3. Now this is f***ing great news! Check out the interview  with SOE Creative director Jens Anderson made by the great guys at mmorpg.com: Watch the Interview with Jens Anderson.  It’s exciting as hell with a mmorpg for the PS3! http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/350/feature/3155/E3-2009-Preview.html

This is me, working my last day before I go on my seven week long vacation(!)  Yes you heard me – I am taking back every inch of overtime done the last year now!

Peace out! (Not if we meet in the battlefield ofc)

The world according to Blackmoore

Diablo III

Time for a game update.
Been a while since I last checked out what was going on in the mmo world around me, and tbh I actually passed on many PC games during 2008 due to my birthday present. Sadly enough the Playstation 3 still doesn’t come with a descent mmorpg game. .

The first real mmorpg for Playstation 3?
Looks like this will change however with the development of DC Universe Online by Sony.

For a long time this was just a strange rumor on the information highway out there, but now it seems Sony has finally realized there is money to be made here (They will probably drop the ball as always and FAIL miserably). At least now it seems the world of Metropolis is playable, although lacking quests and content. Never the less, I get the idea and I love it. I have really enjoyed City of Heroes and to get the superhero concept going with my “real” heroes will be a blast. Just imagine to run alongside Flash, or having a shootout with Green Lantern..

World of Borecraft
In the wonderful world of Personal Computing there will of course be world of kidcraft followed by more, Burning kid and Wrath of the kid king during 2009.. And that really, really bores the hell out of me.

There’s this guy at work who’s got the whole family into playing World of warcraft.. Kids, wife – everyone is raiding every night.. So last time I heard of them, he’s wife was having an affair with some guy in their guild – maybe he had a longer sword?.. 😉

2009 for the serious sci-fi mmo gamer
But seriously, for the rest of us 2009 seems to be a year of waiting. Waiting and hoping for some new great ideas to either come to life or FAIL. Cheyenne Mountain’s Stargate worlds seems to be coming along fine and if we’re lucky we will se it go online by the end of this year, Star Trek Online FAILED and was resurrected by Cryptic Studios, Tad Williams “Otherland” is rumored to be under development by RealU and apparently scheduled for release 2010 (Seeing is believing however). But maybe the blockbuster of them all is the Star Wars – The Old Republic mmo by the incredibly talented Bioware. No one will ever remember Sony’s Star Wars Galaxies after this release, trust me. Be sure to keep an eye out for these games during 2009!

Got dwarf?
What’s that? “Darkfall Online”.. Wake the fuck up! Anyone can make a hardcore fantasy pvp game. Who gives a shit? Snap out of it ffs..

There is however one thing  (and one thing only) that excites me in the world of fantasy gaming – Diablo III. It’s not a mmorpg, but an rpg with multiplayer support. This will be THE remake of the year if you ask me, and I’ll be playing it, my brother will be playing it, my wife will be playing it and so will you. Hell! I’ll even get a copy for my seven year old daughter and she will be playing it for sure.

So let’s sum this up for all of you youngsters who can’t read more than one sentence without falling asleep from excessive gaming:

Stargate worlds (Chayenne Mountain) to be released late 2009

Star Trek Online (Cryptic) to be released late 2009

Otherland (RealU) to be released 2010 at best.. Maybe a beta late 2009?

Star Wars – The old republic (Bioware) to be released late 2009

Diablo III (Blizzard) to be released when Blizzard feels like it (rumored 2009)

Personally  I’ll already preordered Diablo III and my mmo money will sure go for SWTOR later this year. So see you on the dark side or in front of my light saber later this year bitches!

Give yourself to the Dark side!

For a Star Wars hardcore fan like me, the Bioware – Lucasarts work on SWTOR is the most exciting game i have ever waited for.

Check out their new first Developer Dispatch: The Making of Tython, with developer interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and breathtaking, never-before-seen concept art.

Please god yes hit me now ffs!

I’m so happy they decided not to go with the next gen realistic graphics, who want’s to be realistic when playing Star Wars? I get enough of “realistic” in real life!

Eaton – I’m going Sith on your ass, and if our pathes cross you will submit to the power of the dark side. Yes you will!

Star Wars: The Old Republic – some exciting news!

So how exciting is this?
The first attempt to make a Star Wars mmorpg (SWG) was a total fail, now “the saga continues”
In a galaxy far, far away the rpg gods Bioware takes a shoot at it. They have done absolutely great rpg’s before so I really hope they pull this off.

When can i sign up for the beta? Where can I buy t-shirts?
